What I’ve been up to, and how I’m re-committing to writing (for good!)
So I’ve been off the grid, I know.. However I’m longing to get back into some sort of routine with writing. A lot has happened since I was last publishing here, and I’ve got countless of topics ready to be covered and shared! I also feel as if I’ve grown tremendously as a horseman, and I’m excited to express that here.
In all honesty, releasing weekly blogs just isn’t realistic right now. I work 6 days out of the week, from 9am to 5pm give or take. Prior to heading to the barn, I’m at the gym training, so my mornings start early and are busy. By the time I get home, I’m beat! So my goal now is to release blogs bi-weekly. Once I’ve mastered that, I’ll see about resuming the weekly schedule. However quality over quantity is the idea right now.
It’s January in New Jersey, and I’m currently recovering from working the coldest week the state has had in some time (lows in the single digits/low teens, highs mid-upper 20s). To add to that, my team was in Ohio showing at WEC, so it was me, 3 grooms, and 30 some horses trying to stay warm and healthy! The goal was to keep all the horses and clients safe and happy, as there’s only so much you can do when it’s that cold. But the horses can’t stay cooped up in their stalls either - so it’s a balance of getting everybody moved and keeping them safe, as temps that low aren’t healthy for the horses to work in.
I’m proud of the horses for keeping their cool (for the most part..lol), and eager to step into a slightly warmer week of work, so we can be a bit more productive.
Some more updates that I’ll keep brief - Alessi and I got a dog, a now 9mo female Doberman named Kora. If you ever visit Red Oak, you’ll likely meet her, as she spends most days by my side and has made into a great farm dog. I also have, in a way, acquired a new horse.. she’s not mine but is in my care for me to ride and retrain. More on that another time..
That’s all I’ve got for now, keeping this one short and simple as a way to say I’m back and dedicated to this blog - thank you to all who are here! I’m excited for what’s to come!
